Other than the event heralded in the blog’s title, it’s been a pleasant few days devoid of any drama. We’ve been anxiously awaiting watching the GPS count down the degrees of latitude, and around noon Day 14, Arnstein assembled the crew in front of the chart plotter for this photo, in which he captured precisely the instant we crossed zero degrees latitude. This was, for Travis and me, our third equatorial transit, and Carl’s first, not counting by air.
While we have been, for safety reasons, a “dry” boat, we celebrated that day with a single round of Lagunitas IPA’s.
I recently retired after 20 years as a financial advisor and CFP in Sandusky, Ohio, but previous to that, owned Steinemann & Co, sales agent for Nautor's Swan yachts in Newport Beach, California for 18 years. After 3 years of racing and cruising my Swan 44 on the Great Lakes, I trucked it to California, from which my son Travis and I will sail it back to the Great Lakes via the South Pacific, Torres Strait, South Africa, and the Caribbean, where we will race in Antigua Sailing Week April, 2020
